Shit Happens

Well indeed, since yesterday one of the main fuzes started to blow on a regular basis, and we thought the main culprit was the extra space we had opened and thus the increase on our heating elements ...

Even this morning we went through a downcycle of shutting down the hot tub and floor heating to make sure we could warm up the house ... but the fuse kept on blowing.

So what did we change recently ... euuhhhh, nothing really.
Snow is melting, so the second culprit was considered the temporary wiring we are running outside, but again no luck ...

And then it downed on me ... one of the BB's had pulled the temporary electricity to our pump in the biowaste center and I plugged it in yesterday again ... and the temporary electrical plug was tipping in the water .... a pretty burned out experience ...

Shit happens ...

Wired Again

Now that we moved zone from the front to the back, it is wiring time again ...

Another One ...

Do Not Disturb ...

I bumped into this switch in my hotel room this week (and a bunch of others) and should really see if I can get a few of these for our Master Bedroom.

Not really sure what will happen when we take the second option though ...

A Full House ...

The very first Sneak Preview Party was for sure a success, lots of balloons, coffee, cake and family ...

This was the very first time we had 10 guests over since we started XHM and used our new hallway ... it felt great to be able to have everyone at the same time in the hallway and even have some breathing space ...

Ohhh and do we need to mention that Martin got beaten in Wii Boxing by Kalle ... hmmm :-)

Can't wait for Sneak Preview II

Sneak Preview I

Today we start with a series of Sneak Previews for Friends and Family to show off the progress and celebrate some birthdays at the same time ... (not sure of the priority order here).

Anyways ....

Happy Birthday, Kalle !

Nexa

Remember those days when we told you about the table full of X10 elements that had arrived.

Well, today we took a jump in the deep and started to look at a Swedish Alternative, called Nexa.

The main driver for this was that Nexa is readily available here in Sweden in any main street DIY Shop like K-Rauta or Bauhaus and it caught my eye as it has the typical X10 wheel, but would it work with our already installed suite of X10 and Homeseer ?

So what is Nexa ?
Nexa is a rebrand of the Home Easy Product range using its own proprietary format and targetted to the Swedish Market.
I dare to say it follows closely the original X10 design concepts, and has then changed it so that every single unit is a receiver.
It doesn't follow the mesh network approach of Z-Wave, so it has direct range limitations, but it is not as sensitive as X10 to garbage on the electricity grid ... and farmost it is readily available in your local DIY store.

Will we continue to use it ?
Well, we wouldn't want to make the jump to a new protocol if it would not be possible to integrate with HS, and the good news is that it does integrate using the RFXCOM add-on.

So for the more advanced(*) home geekz like myself this is pretty good news.
And for our starter friends who want to implement the walking closet project, you can now also do it with nexa as a starter kit :-)

Conclusion
Annelee, no need to run to Belgium and order the X10.
A simple Nexa PIR and Plugin Module should get you started, I will make the shopping list for you in a next little project, together with some more detailed pros and cons (**).

But now I have to run to get our Sneak Preview organized.

(*) Advanced means having more as three automated lightbulbs in your home.
(**) The dimmer functionality does look weird on the tested equipment.

The Bin of Love ...

The 14th of February ... Valentines day, and giving a garbage bin to your beloved may sound like one of the worst presents ever, ...

However the original vipp was designed in 1939 by Holger Nielsen for his wife Marie ... a bin of love for sure and another great Danish Design Produkt.

The Other Side

It took the turning of the year and a full moon, but now we can officially state that the roof is up.
Some smaller details to be completed ... but we are getting there.

Shoji

Pending Velvet

QA Inspection

DIY: Shoji - II

Okie, so we unloaded the packages we bought at Coop (amazing what one buys at your local super market) and got started.

And I must admit I do like it.
Felt a little like "Ikea for advanced ..." or "Mecano versus Lego ..." but overall with the basic tools we achieved more, in less time as with simular DIY solutions that needs to be made for you ...

And some action shots of the progress ...

The hallway before the installation.
The curtain is hiding the clothes.

Work in Progress ...

And now both doors are in ...

...

Absolut Flamingo

We used to have our bathfoam in ABSOLUT (*) bottles in Belgium, and guess what ...

The BOTTLE is back :-)

(*) adult content ahead.

A Touch of Elk

No tribal art, just our night light in the hall ...

The Doors

Guess what ?!?

DIY: Shoji - Part I

OK, today we are gonna give our hall closet a finishing touch with Lundbergs Shoji

We did the shopping and it ain't cheap, lets hope the result looks stunning.

Stay tuned for the result :-)

Poolboy ?!?

Fatboy® Outdoor suits our landscape. It goes off-road without wheels and survives successfully with its protective rain, stain and UV resistant coating, even in Xtreme House Makeover Situations. It is so tough and durable that we expect to see a movie about ‘extreme Fatboy-in’ on You Tube very soon, with somebody jumping out of a boat and ‘Fatboarding’ his way down the Stockholm Archipelago. Fatboy® outdoor is extremely ... ours!"

Even available in white ... maybe pretty soon in the XHM winter garden ... :-)
